About This Set:
Edward Mortimer Paterson I: Born 17 July Merigomish, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada; married Maud Safford Appleton (1855-1895) 2 September 1873 Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts, USA; died 24 April Oakland , California, USA.
The nine-piece Mint Set for 1844 contains a scarce dime, nicknamed the "Little Orphan Annie" by promoter Frank C. Ross. In reality, the 1846 is scarcer in all grades, but the "fame" and consequently demand and higher values fell to the 1844. None of the other coins in this set are particularly rare, but a high-grade Seated Dollar will not be inexpensive.
