Capped Bust Half Dollars Major Variety Set without Reeded Edges, Circulation Strikes (1807-1836)

Along with the early (pre-1816) large cents, Capped Bust Halves have long been a favorite of variety collectors. With dozens of overdates, and variations in the date and lettering, this series offers an excellent balance of difficulty and completability. While a few collectors have completed this set and several others have come within one or two coins, there is one coin in this set that will present a formidable challenge; the 1817/4 (of which there are less than ten known) will require an outlay in the upper five figures even in low grade. While others, such as the 1812/1 Large 8 or the 1830 Large Letters will prove scarce, this is a set that can be nearly completed with some patience and money.
