Stack's Bowers Auction Spring 2019 Baltimore U.S. Coins Auction Mar-2019 A Second 1801 BD-2 Eagle 1801 Capped Bust Right Eagle. BD-2, Taraszka-25. Rarity-2. EF-45 (PCGS). We are pleased to be offering multiple examples of this perennially popular type variety in the Capped Bust Right eagle series in this sale. The present lot highlights a handsome Choice EF bathed in warm, even, medium gold patina. The strike is ideally centered with fully and uniformly denticulated borders encircling both sides. Light high point rub does little more than define the EF-45 grade assigned by PCGS, the devices retaining plenty of bold to sharp definition. A touch of glossiness to the texture is noted for accuracy, but the in hand appearance is quite smooth, and the eye appeal is strong for a lightly circulated survivor of this scarce and challenging early U.S. Mint gold type. BD Die State a/a. PCGS# 8564. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
