1871 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. MS-63 (NGC). OH. Produced to the extent of just 1,300 pieces, the business strike 1871 is a very scarce-to-rare issue in all grades. Uncs are particularly elusive, Q. David Bowers and Doug Winter (The United States $3 Gold Pieces: 1854-1889, 2005) accounting for only 40-50 pieces extant in Mint State. An impressive Choice-quality survivor that radiates even rose-orange color, both sides are also possessed of shimmering semi brilliance in the fields. Not overly abraded for the grade, with a very appealing "look."
