Legend Rare Coin Auctions Auction The Regency Auction 57 Feb-2023 THE BIG CYPRESS COLLECTION A gorgeous and very HIGH END example! Only 1,000 1880 $3s were struck, and this one was graded ages ago, housed in a Generation 1.2 Rattler holder. Intensely brilliant surfaces gleam with vivid luster. Rich golden color is gorgeous and brought out by a flashy, semi-PL brilliance. The devices show razor sharp definition and the eye appeal and quality give off the initial impression of a higher grade. The eye appeal is exceptional in every way, and how exciting that a great coin like this survives in its first PCGS encapsulation! PCGS 41, NGC 12, CAC 6. No doubt there is some duplication in the grading figures, a result of crossovers, upgrades, regrades, etc. This gorgeous and VERY HIGH END example realized $16,800 in the 2022 ANA auction, a price that exceeded a PCGS MS64 CAC that sold in June 2022 and a non-CAC PCGS MS65 that sold in March 2022. That $16,800 is well above the published levels as well. Be prepared, we expect this 1880 $3 to again bring a very strong bid! Cert. Number 6099089 PCGS # 8002
