| Stack's Bowers | Auction | Spring 2026 Showcase Auction U.S. Coins | Mar-2026 | The 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln cent is often called "the king of Lincoln cents." However, despite being abundant in lower grades, especially within the circulated portion of the numismatic grading scale, the 1925-D is far scarcer in full Red Gem Mint State. Most Uncirculated examples either have mushy strikes, browning, or spots, making this piece, which features none of those drawbacks, a remarkable survivor. With vivid medium orange surfaces and an exceptional strike for this usually poorly produced issue, it is an extraordinarily attractive coin fit for a top-notch collection of Lincolns. The last PCGS/CAC MS-65 Red we sold was in our November 2019 Baltimore Auction - it had a typically poor strike with the digit 5 in the date and several peripheral letters fading away toward the rims. This one is far nicer and worthy of an aggressive bidding strategy. |
