| Legend Rare Coin Auctions | Auction | The Regency Auction 58 - Central States | Apr-2023 | An amazing SUPERB GEM, as you would expect from a coin in this lofty grade! With just three in MS68 finer at PCGS, this 39-D is tied for second highest graded for the date at PCGS. The surfaces display a rich, vibrant luster that radiates brilliantly on both sides, accenting the traces of peripheral tone that is seen at the rims on both obverse and reverse. Generally well struck, there is just a touch of weakness on Liberty's hand, where some planchet roller lines were not fully struck out (as made). Virtually pristine and essentially flawless, the surfaces are unmarred by any marks of any kind and the eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 168, NGC 107, CAC 92. There are 31 at PCGS in MS67+. No doubt there is some duplication in the Population and Census figures as coins get crossed, cracked, upgraded, resubmitted, over and over in hopes of higher grades. The most recent example realized $4,560 in June 2022 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,000. Just three are finer at PCGS, all MS68, and the Price Guide jumps to $30,000 in that highest grade. This is a great coin for any great set, especially if you demand CAC approval. Worthy of the finest collection. Cert. Number 45903010 PCGS # 6607 |
