The Early Quarter Dollars of the United States

Quarter Dollars Of 1828
1 2

No. 4

Obverse: Date close, about equally spaced; lower left star more distant from drapery than in [Browning] 1, 2 and 3, which are from the same die.

Reverse: Similar to 1827 [Browning] 1, and 1828 [Browning] 1, which are from the same die, but ends of scroll are in a different position; left under E; right under foot of A near right end. On scroll: I under space between A and T; S part way under space between E and S. In the legend, space between words STATES and OF, and between OF and AMERICA, is less than in [Browning] 1.

Dies perfect. A scarce variety. Proofs were made from these.

Curl begins left of center of 8; first star nearer border than drapery and points to upper edge of dentil.
F much too low.
Browning-4; Clapp-1; Duphorne-56; included in Breen-3913; not in Haseltine.
