2010 One Ounce Proof Platinum Coins - Sold Out

It didn't take much time for the 2010 One Ounce Proof Platinum coins to sell out. In the previous issue of eCollector we mentioned that the coins had just been made available by the U.S. Mint.

The 2010 One Ounce Proof Platinum coins originally went on sale on August 12, 2010. The maximum authorized mintage was set at 10,000 coins. The price of each coin was originally set at $1,892. However, by August 18, the Mint dropped the price to $1,792 due to the Mint's pricing structure which is meant to follow the spot price of Gold and Platinum coins.

Despite the Mint imposing a 5-coin ordering limit per household, the coins still sold out in about a week's time. Interestingly, this year's 2010 Proof Platinum coins sold out quicker than last year's, even though the maximum authorized mintage this year was set at 2,000 more coins than last year.
