2010 Shield Cents Unveiled

-

On November 12, the last 2009 Presidency Lincoln cents were released by the United States Mint. Shortly thereafter, the Mint recently unveiled the new 2010 Lincoln cents which will be issued next year.

The new 2010 Lincoln cent reverse design will depict a Union Shield. The Shield has the words E Pluribus Unum located above 13 vertical stripes representing the original 13 States in the Union. Across the shield, an open scroll is displayed indicating One Cent. Arched above the shield are the words United States of America.

The new 2010 cents will be composed of 2.5 percent copper and balance zinc. The 2010 Lincoln cents will be minted in unlimited quantities until demand is met. The Mint will also produce proof coins which will be offered in 2010 proof sets. Uncirculated 2010 Lincoln cents will also be offered in 2010 Mint sets.
