2010 Uncirculated and Proof Gold Buffaloes

-

The highly anticipated 2010 Proof One Ounce Gold Buffaloes will finally be available from the U.S. Mint next week on June 23, 2010. This is great news for collectors and dealers, as there has been a limited supply of Proof Gold Buffaloes for quite some time.

Last year, the Mint canceled several Gold Buffalo coin products which included all Uncirculated and Proof Fractional Gold Buffalo coins. All Fractional Gold Buffalo coins were canceled due to the lack of gold planchet supplies required to produce the coins. And instead, the Mint only offered the 2009 One Ounce Gold Uncirculated and Proof Gold Buffaloes.

Both the 2009 One Ounce Uncirculated and Proof Gold Buffaloes turned out to be huge successes for the U.S. Mint. The Mint sold approximately 200,000 Uncirculated Gold Buffaloes and about 50,000 Proofs.

This year, the figures are also expected to be high; that is if the Mint can keep up with the high demand and does not cancel offering the coins as it has in the past.

On a different note, the 2010 Uncirculated Gold Buffalo coins were also offered earlier this year. The coins went on sale on April 29. By the end of the day, the Mint had already sold approximately 50,000 coins. By the following week, PCGS also began to receive a lot of the coins at our facility for grading.

Since the inception of the Gold Buffalo coins, they have proved to be extremely popular coins. And there is no doubt that the 2010 Gold Buffaloes will prove to be very popular this year as well.
