2012 Native American Dollar Images Revealed

The U.S. Mint has released images of the reverse design of the 2012 Native American dollar. Since 2009, the Mint has changed the design on the reverse of these dollars every year.

The theme of this year's design is called "Trade Routes in the 17th Century." The reverse of the coin depicts a Native American man next to his horse with other horses galloping in the background. This represents the historical spread of the horse. The design also includes inscriptions that say United States of America and $1.

The Mint will only sell the coins to the public rather than release them into circulation as they have in previous years. This is due to the suspension announced several months ago by the Treasury Department (since so many dollar coins still remain in the Federal Reserve vaults). The Mint has not announced a sale date to the public, but they will most-likely be released later this month. The Mint began selling the 2011 Native American Dollar coins on January 12 of last year.

The Mint will offer the 2012 Native American dollars in $25 rolls at an issue price of $32.95 per roll for either the Philadelphia or Denver coins.
