The third part of the Harry W. Bass Jr. Collection, one of the most significant of our time, will be offered by Bowers and Merena at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel in New York City on May 25-26th. Internet bidding ended May 21st.
The Bass III offering in combination with the past Bass II and forthcoming Bass IV presentations, gives bidders one of the most comprehensive offerings of fine United States gold coins from dollars to double eagles. Never before has such a broad selection come to auction.
Highlights in the auction include a 1796 No-Stars Quarter Eagle PCGS MS 62, an 1841 "Little Princess" Quarter Eagle PCGS Proof 64, an 1875 Three Dollar gold piece PCGS Proof 64, and a lovely first year issue 1795 Heraldic Eagle PCGS MS61. There is a fabulous selection of gold dollars. Half eagles include many interesting and rare early issues, not to mention a fine selection in the Coronet Head series featuring scarce issues and many fascinating die varieties. $10 gold pieces include one of the most important offerings of Coronet Head pieces ever to cross the auction block. The number of double eagles is extensive, with many incredible coins of quality and rarity.
Internet bidding ended on May 21, 2000 at 9pm PST. Highest bids placed on the Internet have been recorded. However, being the high bidder on the Internet does not guarantee that you have bought the item. At the live auction, May 25-26, you will also be competing with mail (book) bids, agent bids and live floor bids. There is a good possibility that a higher bid will be received from one of these other sources. Winning bidders will be notified after the live floor auction on May 26, 2000.
