What's Going On with the 5 oz. Coins in the Market?

-

It's amazing that the Mint just recently issued the 2010-P Yosemite 5 oz. Collector Version coins and yet collectors still seem to be keeping up with the Mint's pace. The 2010-P Yosemite is the third coin issued in the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Collector Version series. The coins went on sale on June 9, 2011 for a price of $284.95 each and within two weeks, the Mint has already sold 20,511 coins. The maximum authorized mintage for this issue is set at 27,000 coins. So a sellout should be approaching very soon.

Remember, the Mint had already released five different 5 oz. 2010 non-collector versions of these coins earlier this year. Additionally, it also released four of the 2011 non-collector 5 oz. versions this year as well. That's 12 different 5 oz coins this year, and there are still 8 more 5 oz coins to come this year alone! That's 20 different coins that will be released this year from the 5 oz. coin series.

It seems this series still has legs despite the abundance of coins being sold by the Mint. Hopefully the 5 oz. series continues to be popular as the program has 10 more exciting years ahead of it.
