World Coin Update

-

For the past several months, we have been hard at work setting up a structure for accessing our vast world coin database. We're working from the "top down" from the standpoint of population, finishing the countries more or less in order of the number of coins we have certified from each.

As of this point, we are on the verge of finishing off Mexico, which will complete the top ten:

ChinaGermany
CanadaJapan
Great Britain Mexico
Australia France
South Africa Poland

Our population for these ten countries total about 818,000 coins. This represents just over 83% of our World Coin population of 981,000.

So what does all this mean to you? First and most important, will be the ability to quickly access population data.

Each tab shown above opens a new window, which contains a complete outline of that nation's coinage from roughly the early 17th century to date. Clicking on an era, then on a denomination or ruler, will present complete population data, by date and mint, of the selected coin.

We will also soon be unveiling localized sites – one for the Americas (U.S., Canada and Mexico), Europe (France, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Asia/Oceania (China, Japan, Australia and others) and Africa (South Africa, Egypt)

But this is just the beginning! Setting up this structure will enable us to provide the following information and services in the coming months:

  1. Additional sets for the Set Registry. We currently have about 5,000 sets in our World Registry and expect to double that number over the next several years. www.pcgs.com/setregistry/.
  2. Price Guides. We've already started with China, which you can check out at the following address: www.pcgs.com/prices/China.aspx
  3. PCGS World CoinFacts. While this is a longer-term project, we hope to begin work soon on a comprehensive site for world coin facts and information.

Obviously there is a lot of data to compile in a project such as this, and the sheer scope and vast time periods involved means we will never really be finished, but look for significant enhancements in our World Coin database to continue.
