Choosing the Right PCGS Grading Service Level

Selecting a service level for your PCGS submission can be an overwhelming task because there are so many options. How do you know which one is correct for your coins? The appropriate service level is determined by the value of your coins and It is important to note that you can only select one per submission.

Here is a brief description of each of the PCGS service levels:

Rarities

This is our highest service level offered for coins valued at $100,000 and more. All coins submitted at this level will receive an extra inspection by the grading team and are eligible for a rarities holder at no extra charge. Rarities submissions include a 1% guarantee premium based on the final grade of each coin. The value of the coin is determined by the PCGS Price Guide or the declared value of the coin. Rarities is a Gold Shield service level, meaning it adds additional covert and overt security features to the holder and includes PCGS TrueView images at no extra cost.

Walkthrough

This service level is for coins valued anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000. Coins submitted to the Walkthrough service typically make it through the whole grading process and are shipped back to you within seven business days of being received. Walkthrough is a Gold Shield service level.

Express

This service level is for coins that are valued up to $10,000. Coins submitted to this level have a significantly faster turnaround time than those submitted to Regular or Economy. Express is a Gold Shield service level.

Mint Errors or Special Issues

This service level is for any high-value mint errors or special-issue coins. Mint errors are imperfections in the minting process that impact the appearance of the coin. Special issues will include pieces such as Colonials, Fractional Gold, patterns, Territorials, tokens, and medals. Mint errors and special issues are a Gold Shield service level.

Economy Mint Errors or Special Issues

This service level is for any mint error or special issue that is valued at $300 or less. Economy mint errors or special issues are a Gold Shield service level.

Regular

The Regular service level is for all coins valued up to $2,500. This is our most frequently used service. Regular is a Gold Shield service level.

Economy

The Economy service level is for all non-gold coins valued at $300 or less. Economy is not a Gold Shield service level. If you would like PCGS TrueView images of your coin, they will be an additional charge.

Modern

This service level is for coins minted from 1965 to the present day that are valued up to $2,500. Modern is not a Gold Shield service level.

Modern Value

This service level is for coins minted from 1965 to the present day that are valued at $300 or less. Modern Value is not a Gold Shield service level.

Rarities Reholder

This service level is for any coin valued over $100,000 you would like to have reholdered. Rarity Reholder is a Gold Shield service level.

Reholder

This service level is for any coins valued under $100,000 that you would like reholdered. Any coins valued under $2,500 do not include Gold Shield services. However, any coins valued between $2,500 and $100,000 will include Gold Shield services.

Guarantee Resubmission

This service level is for any coins reviewed that you believe may have been improperly graded. PCGS has the strongest guarantee of grade and authenticity in the industry.

Special Label or Holder

Check the “Special Label or Holder” box in addition to your service level box if you are requesting a special label or holder such as our First Strike label, Rarities Holder, or Dual Holder.
