The PCGS Periodic Table of U.S. Coins

Here at PCGS not only do we have the privilege to examine and document marvelous numismatic specimens each and every day, but we also have the privilege to work with some of the greatest geniuses of the Numismatic Sciences. Numismatics is such a dense tapestry of facts and figures, that to an outsider it can seem overwhelming and impenetrable. But what if there were a way to condense some of this information into one easy reference? Thanks to a stunning breakthrough at CoinFacts Laboratories in conjunction with PCGS Studios, we feel that we’ve finally been able to achieve this. Best of all, we are giving away this new reference for free at the upcoming Long Beach Expo June 4-6.

What is it? The Periodic Table of US Coins: A large chart depicting virtually all US coins that have been minted for circulation by the United States Mint.

The information contained on this Periodic Table is extremely handy for the coin enthusiast, and enlightening for the layperson. The table categorizes the coins by type, describes its edge, its metallic content, diameter in millimeters, weight in grams, years of its circulation, mint where it was struck, and information on the coins’ designers and engravers.

Along with its information density, we’ve also made this Periodic Table visually striking as well, using images taken by our crack team of numismatic photographers.

But how has this Periodic Table been received from a person not familiar with coins? This is the truest test of its efficacy. I’m happy to report that after conducting an intensive focus group (as in showing it to my wife) the subject responded positively. Comments such as "Now I know what you’re actually talking about" as well as, "So that’s what you mean by Double Eagle." seem to indicate that the information in the Periodic Table of US Coins is easily digested. The subject also, surprisingly, suggested framing the chart and hanging it up in the spare bedroom. *Individual results may vary.
