PCGS Set Registry Update

Coinage can take on unique forms just as the various types of methods that are used within the filmmaking industry to produce movie magic. Stop-motion is a filming technique that could involve the use of clay characters, wooden figurines, and other mediums. These inanimate objects are captured frame by frame, which can be a painstaking process to finish, and the completed work creates the illusion of movement.

This method of filmmaking first made its debut in a short film titled The Humpty Dumpty Circus in 1898, which has been lost in time. The movie King Kong, released in 1933, used the stop-motion process. Tim Burton, who is world renowned as a director, worked for Walt Disney Productions early in the 1980s. During his time there, he wrote a poem that turned into the film The Nightmare Before Christmas. Burton embraced the stop-motion animation during the making of his musical Christmas film, which was released in the fall of 1993. Jake Skellington, who is known as the Pumpkin King, is a character in this movie whose coin shown above is part of a set PCGS recently listed as Niue $2 Nightmare Before Christmas Set, Specimen Strikes (2021-2023).
