PCGS CoinFacts Update

The year 2011 marked the 25th anniversary of the American Eagle program. Born out of the ashes of the failed American Arts Medallion series, American Eagles offered investors in the United States and abroad the opportunity to buy bullion denominated in dollars and backed by the U.S. government. This was a watershed event for the Mint and the precious metals industry. The 40-million-coin mintage of the 2011 bullion strike demonstrated that demand for the one-ounce silver coin had exceeded even the most optimistic expectations of the program’s Congressional backers. Furthermore, PCGS grading transformed the American Silver Eagle from a basic bullion coin into a highly liquid collectible. Charles Morgan provides this new CoinFacts update.   Read more.

PCGS Set Registry Update

King George V and George VI ruled during the period of 1935 through 1952, years when Canada -- a self-governing dominion under the British crown -- was sporadically producing specimen-strike silver dollars. Most years have similar surface finishes, but some variations exist. For example, 1937 specimen dollars were struck in a matte and mirror finsh. The mirror variety is scarcer, and PCGS therefore does not require this variety to complete a set. Additionally, there are multiple varieties from 1947. PCGS constructed this set so more members can participate without needing to own the rarities within it. This colorfully toned dollar coin is part of the Canadian George V and VI Dollars with Major Varieties, Specimen (1935-1952) that collectors can complete on the PCGS Set Registry.

Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build. The PCGS Set Registry offers many different sets from all over the world and specialty sets for advanced collectors. We appreciate your continued patronage!
