Obverse: The same as [Browning] 5.

Reverse: Ends of scroll: left under space between E and D, or about opposite the extreme right of E, the only reverse of the date with left end of scroll in this position; right end is under center of foot of A. On scroll: I under space between A and T; S about centered under S.

Dies perfect in early impressions; in later pieces reverse is cracked in three places; from top edge through second T in STATES, under scroll at right of I and across eagle's beak to eagle, about midway between the wing at left and shield; from top edge through first A in AMERICA to top of eagle's winning at right; from left edge through N of UNITED to eagle's wing at left.

This is apparently a very rare variety, but two pieces have been found in seven years; one About Fine with perfect reverse, as shown on Plate III. The other is Poor with die cracked as above, which may account for its rarity.

Ninth star repunched . Scroll begins opposite lower right corner of E.

Obverse: The same as [Browning] 5 and 6.

Reverse: Ends of scroll: left under upright of D; right under foot of A at extreme right. On scroll: I centered under T; S under S at right. The period after C, is under arrowhead, the only reverse with the period in this position.

Obverse die perfect; reverse cracked from left edge through N in UNITED, terminating in field near the eagle's wing but not touching it.

A rare variety.
