2018 Kennedy Half Dollars Released

The U.S. Mint recently began selling the 2018 Kennedy Half Dollars – a few weeks ago, in March, 2018. The U.S Mint offered the coins to collectors and public in 40-coin rolls and in 200-coin bags. The 40-coins rolls came as a set of two rolls for 80 coins in total. A roll from the Philadelphia Mint is paired with one from the Denver Mint, and together the Mint sells them for a price of $32.95. The 200-coin bags were offered at $139.95 each. Each bag had 100 coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint and 100 coins struck at the Denver Mint. The coin bags have a $100 denomination and indicated "2018 Kennedy Half Dollar Coin (P&D)" on the outside tag.

The Kennedy Half Dollar has been issued since 1964. It was produced to honor John F. Kennedy, shortly after his assassination. Since 1964, the U.S. Mint has struck the coins in different formats including in uncirculated, proofs and with special finishes. In 2014, the U.S. Mint even struck the coins in 24 carat gold, to commemorate the 50^th anniversary of the Kennedy Half Dollar coin design. However, since 2002, the Mint has not issued Kennedy Half Dollars for circulation. Although, the Mint has continued to produce uncirculated Kennedy Half Dollars, it only makes them for collectors, selling them at a premium over their face value. Because of this, since 2002 the mintages of the uncirculated Kennedy Half Dollars have drastically decreased, in contrast with the 2001 Kennedy Half Dollars and previous years.

2018 Uncirculated Kennedy Half Dollars continue to have the same obverse and reverse designs that have been used since 1964. The obverse was designed by Gilroy Roberts. The obverse design has Kennedy’s large profile with the inscriptions "Liberty", "In God We Trust" and the year "2018." The reverse features a large Presidential Seal, which was implemented by Frank Gasparro. The reverse also has the inscriptions, "United States of America", "E Pluribus Unum" and "Half Dollar."
