On April 24, 2018 the United States Mint officially offered the 2018 Silver Proof Set to the public. The set contains ten different coins, which come packaged in two different clear protective lenses and a certificate of authenticity. The coins included in the set are as follows: a Lincoln cent, a Jefferson nickel, a Roosevelt dime, a Kennedy half dollar, and a Native American dollar. The second part of the set includes the five 2018 America The Beautiful quarters (Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Voyageurs National Park, Cumberland Island National Seashore, Block Island National Wildlife Refuge.)
All coins are struck in proof format and were all produced at the San Francisco Mint, therefore, each coin contains an "S" mint mark. Most of the coins in the set, were struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, with the exception of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson nickel and the Native American dollar. All the coins in the 2018 Silver Proof Set have a mirror like background, also referred to cameo or deep cameo. Overall, the coins come in really nice quality, since they were struck by polished dies more than once, which gives them a high-quality appearance, not to mention, the coins were also handled very carefully by Mint employees.
With seven of the coins containing 90% silver, the proof set itself has a silver melt value of about $22 (more or less). If we include the face value of the coins, which is about $3, then the set itself has a face and melt combined total value of about $25. The 2018 Silver Proof Set officially went on sale directly by the U.S. Mint on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Each proof set is being offered by the U.S. Mint at $49.95, which is $2 higher than the 2017 Silver Proof Sets.
To order the coins, you may visit the U.S. Mint website here https://catalog.usmint.gov/coins/proof-sets/. Currently, there are no mintage, product limit or household ordering restrictions on the sets. At PCGS we will also be grading the coins.
