Forsythe Collection 1920-S PCGS MS66
“These are from the collection of Gerald Forsythe. The weighted grade point average of the basic set of circulation strikes is an amazing 66.50, and the average for the proof Buffalo nickels is 68,” said BJ Searls PCGS Set Registry Manager. PCGS is a division of Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT).
Forsythe’s Buffalo nickel collection was inducted into the PCGS Hall of Fame in 2005. It won the Best Classic Set Award for the circulation strikes in 2005 and 2006, and the proof coins won Best Classic Set Awards in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
A complete basic circulation strike set consists of 64 coins, and there are eight coins in the complete set of proof Buffalo nickels.
“There’s something about Buffalo nickels that attracts collectors. Some remember when every once in a while one would show up in their change, or a time when they did Grandpa a favor and the reward was a beautiful old nickel. Perhaps it reminds us of a time when the West was still new. Whatever the reasons, many people collect Buffalo nickels and some have managed to build truly phenomenal sets,” said Ron Guth, President of PCGS, in the introduction to the Buffalo nickels set registry page.
