Rarities across the spectrum of American coinage are set to cross the auction block on Tuesday, September 1, as Stack’s Bowers Galleries, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious rare coin auction firms, presents the Rarities Night Session of its highly anticipated Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction. The firm’s sale, presented as an event auctioneer partner of the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money, comprises 23 auction sessions to be held from August 31 to September 11. The entire sale is available for viewing and pre-sale bidding at stacksbowers.com.
Rarities Night is anchored by a number of “name collections,” which are joined by other equally important consignments.
- The Bostonian Collection: A carefully curated selection of coins, mostly PCGS-graded, including a run of early dollars.
- The Charles “Cheech” Litman Collection: A collection laden with rarities from a Continental Dollar to high-end territorial gold. Replete with highlights, leading the pack is the famed Norweb 1894-S Barber Dime.
- The Collection of William Alonzo Rinehart IV: An extensive collection of rarities in all series, mostly in collector-friendly grades. Among the highlights are a 1792 Copper Disme pattern and other delicacies sure to delight collectors.
- The Jefferson Street Collection: A fresh collection, primarily of U.S. gold coins, built decades ago and including the finest-known 1795 BD-11 Half Eagle (only two confirmed to exist). Named for the Lower East Side New York City tenement where the family began their American dream, the father-and-son team worked closely with Stack’s to build this collection.
- The Koopmann Collection: One of the most extensive offerings of United States gold coins from a single consignor we have presented in recent times. It is replete with early gold, branch-mint rarities, and key dates, and has a keen focus on the Liberty Head Half Eagle and Eagle series.
- The Longboat Collection: A selection of better-date silver and gold coins, highlighted by an 1879 Flowing Hair Stella.
- The Nicholas P. Brown Collection of U.S. Mint Errors: An astounding group of some of the greatest U.S. Mint errors.
- The PentaMint™ Collection: A high-grade offering of Carson City Trade Dollars, all of which are within or near the condition census for their issue.
- The Thomas H. Borysek Collection: Primarily early copper half cents and large cents of the Flowing Hair types.
Items from many of these collections can be found in other sessions as well, so be sure to review the entire Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction.
“Strong market conditions have enticed closely held collections out of hiding,” said Brian Kendrella, president of Stack’s Bowers Galleries. “I was astounded with the unbelievable depth and breadth of the selection of items in this catalog, particularly among gold coins. There are many high-quality pieces along with coins offering great histories and pedigrees, as perusal of the catalog makes quite clear.”
