Earlier this year in February, the Long Beach Expo began celebrating its 60th Diamond Anniversary. I recall the first time I traveled to the Long Beach Expo in Southern California. I had flown out from Pittsburgh International Airport and landed in Los Angeles. Once I exited the terminal, the sun and the palm trees greeted me with delight. I took a taxi from Los Angeles International Airport to Long Beach and was taken aback by the seven lanes of traffic on Interstate 405, brimming with cars.

Once I got to my hotel room, I took in the scenic view of the harbor from my room and noticed a big ship docked in the distance. I didn’t think anything of it. Later at the show, someone told me that the ship in the harbor is the HMS Queen Mary, which has been a hotel since 1972. I was shocked at learning this factoid. My father first arrived in the United States on that same ship, and I have a black and white photograph of him sitting with four friends below deck on the HMS Queen Mary dated August 1962. They sailed from Southampton England to New York City over a span of six days.

Long Beach, California, is a pleasant city that offers beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Many good restaurants exist within the city, and the overall vibe is laidback. Check out the Long Beach Creamery, whose superb ice cream will leave your taste buds in awe. The Long Beach Pier is close to the expo center and so is the boardwalk alongside the beach. The Long Beach Expo is hosted by PCGS, and we welcome you to visit us at our booth from June 6-8, 2024.
