PCGS CoinFacts Update
Countless quarter albums remain incomplete, marked by a glaring hole where the 1932-D Washington Quarter should be. Despite its status as a key date, 70% of all examples certified by PCGS are circulated survivors—a testament to how long this rarity went unnoticed in change. Discover the historical controversy surrounding the launch of the Washington series and why professional certification is an absolute necessity for this issue. Read more.
PCGS Set Registry Update
It was May 28, 1988, when the song “One More Try” by British artist Geroge Michael hit the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was a -- brilliant ballad -- perhaps athletes used the title of the song to motivate themselves. In athletics, one must try, try, try, and few are naturally gifted enough to rise to the top. Many train for years to compete at the highest level. Like those sportspersons competing to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics, which were held in Seoul, Korea in 1988. Carl Lewis of the United States won two gold medals and was the fastest man on Earth when he won the 100-meter dash in 9.92 seconds. During 1988, the United States had struck Olympic coinage for collectors. The $1 Olympic coin was struck in silver and the $5 Olympic denomination was coined in gold. These two denominations were produced in an uncirculated and proof finish for collectors. The $5 Olympic PCGS PR70DCAM coin shown above is part of the 1988 Year Set that PCGS has recently listed.
