PCGS CoinFacts Update

Seeing John Flanagan’s original Washington portrait return one final time brought the “classic” Washington Quarter full circle, 89 years after the design’s debut. While the 21st century has been marked by a continuous parade of rotating commemorative reverses, the Crossing the Delaware Quarter struck a different chord, evoking the colonial wonder of Jack Ahr’s famous 1975-1976 Bicentennial reverse. On this Benjamin Sowards design, the Continental Army crosses the freezing river under the aegis of Washington's leadership, carrying the frozen hopes of a new nation, just as the drummer boy on that earlier coin kept the beat of the American patriots' noble march toward liberty and independence. Charles Morgan provides this new CoinFacts update.   Read more.

PCGS Set Registry Update

South Africa passed the "Pretoria Mint Act of 1919," which was enacted on January 1, 1923. Until that date, no coins were struck in Pretoria, South Africa, and now this city would become an extension of the Royal Mint in Great Britain. Gold sovereigns were also first coined in Pretoria in 1923. Eight circulation strikes were issued, including the 1/4 penny, 1/2 penny, penny, 3 pence, 6 pence, florin, shilling, and 2-1/2 shillings. These coins were also produced with a proof finish. The meticulously detailed 2-1/2 shillings coin seen above is part of the 1923 South African Proof Set that collectors can complete on the PCGS Set Registry.

Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build. The PCGS Set Registry offers many different sets from all over the world and specialty sets for advanced collectors. We appreciate your continued patronage!
