“Incredible!” PCGS Display of Top Buffalo Nickels at ANA

Visitor reaction to the display of the award-winning number one PCGS Set Registry sets of circulation strike and proof Buffalo nickels at the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 8 – 12, 2007, was very positive.

“We repeatedly heard comments such as ‘incredible,’ ‘amazing’ and ‘awesome’ as people examined the coins at the PCGS booth,” said BJ Searls, PCGS Set Registry Manager. “Several people said that Buffalo nickels are their favorite design, and they looked forward to seeing this exhibit.”

The Buffalo nickels were from the collection of Gerald Forsythe, and the sets included 16 coins that are the single finest ever submitted for certification to PCGS. The weighted grade point average of the basic set of circulation strikes is 66.50 (out of a possible 66.53), and the average for the proof Buffalo nickels in the collection is 68 (out of 68.19).

PCGS President Ron Guth met with collectors and dealers to offer his personal opinions and comments about various coins he was asked to examine at the booth.

“The ANA convention started slow, built momentum during the week, and ended with a bang. We are very pleased with the level of business that we did, and it’s always nice to renew old friendships and make new ones,” said Guth.

“One of the benefits of the ANA show is that the quality of the coins we see at the annual summer convention is generally higher than what we’re used to seeing at smaller shows. For those of us who love coins, that’s always a plus!”
