It’s new and improved. The United States Mint 1999 Annual Report is now out, including some statistics awaited by coin collectors.
The statistics provided are often difficult to use. The 1999 report won’t disappoint anyone there. The five Statehood quarter dollar coins for the calendar year are listed with mintage figures for the fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30. In other words, these statistics may be incomplete. They don’t tell us how many total coins were made; only how many were made to that date. You will have to wait for the 2000 report to complete this puzzle.
According to the Mint report, there were 373.4 million Delaware quarters made at Philadelphia and another 401.424 million at Denver to that date. To the fiscal year-end, there were 349 million Pennsylvania quarters made at Philadelphia and 358,332,000 at Denver. Mintage of New Jersey quarters to the same date were 363.2 million at Philadelphia and 299.028 million at Denver. There were 451,188,000 Georgia coins made at Philadelphia and 488,744,000 at Denver.
Since production appears to have stopped for these four coins by that date, these may be the final mintage figures. The Connecticut quarter dollar coins were still in production at that time. The report indicates merely 28 million of the coins from Philadelphia and 16.6 million from Denver. Don’t be confused by these figures. This is not a rare coin in the making.
If it is any consolation, the Mint previously provided mintage figures for the Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Georgia quarters which are not that different from these figures in the annual report.
