US Mint Announces Sale Date for First Bimetallic Commemorative

The U.S. Mint will begin marketing of this country's first bimetallic commemorative coin on April 24, 2000.

The $10 coin features an outer ring of .900 fine gold and an inner ring of .9995 platinum bearing an image honoring the bicentennial of the U.S. Library of Congress. The coin, with an overall diameter of 27 millimeters (plus or minus 0.08mm) and a weight of 16.25 grams, will be launched in a special ceremony on April 24 at the Library of Congress. Also offered will be first-day philatelic covers with a Library of Congress stamp.

From April 24 through June 9, collectors can order the bimetallic coin through the U.S. Mint's website at special pre-issue discount prices of $395 for a Proof and $380 for an Uncirculated coin. After June 9, prices will be $425 and $405, respectively. Orders placed through the website will have no shipping charge. Telephone, fax and mail orders will include a $3.95 shipping charge for each order.
