Forget all the talk of famous hoards; the truth is the 1796 Draped Bust Quarter has always been a coveted rarity. It is the only quarter struck in the 18th century and the only one to carry the Small Eagle reverse. PCGS Set Registry Update
Gold prices have continued to ascend over the past two years. Global investor enthusiasm, geopolitical risks, and jewelry demand have all contributed to the yellow precious metal's rise in price. Coin collectors have also taken notice that gold coins cost more now than ever. However, demand for gold coinage remains robust, and gold coins can be denominated in many currencies, such as the euro. The euro was introduced in 2002 in 21 countries that are part of the European Union (EU) and remains the region's unit of currency. A 200 euro gold coin was issued by Greece in 2003 commemorating 75 years of the Bank of Greece. This coin weighs 17 grams and contains slightly less than half an ounce of pure gold. This series would resume in 2013 as represented above in a coin depicting Hippocrates, known as the "Father of Medicine." This gold coin is included in the 2003-Present Greece Gold 200 Euro Proof Set that PCGS recently listed.
