PCGS CoinFacts Update
This key-date Morgan Dollar was completely absent from the Treasury Department's massive bag releases, and only a single coin was ever sold in the GSA sales. That is why it was such a welcome surprise in 2025 when 35 uncirculated examples, quietly preserved by a Nevada family, were finally submitted to PCGS for grading. Read more.
PCGS Set Registry Update
PCGS recently mentioned that Banco de México releases a new circulation strike Libertad Onza (one ounce) each year, and they also mint a proof version of the coin. The first proof issue was minted in 1983, and the coin contains an ounce of .999-fine silver. This coin is considered one of the key issues, as only 998 coins were issued. Today, the coin could bring well in excess of $5,000 with a PCGS PR69 designation. Collectors have been snapping up this proof issue for the last few decades, and it's as popular as ever. In 2025, another rarity was created when the proof Libertad Onza was released and the mintage is only 300 pieces. The 2025 Libertad Onza is valued at a little over $5,000 as well in a PCGS PR69 grade and can be difficult to source. The coin shown above is part of the 2025 Mexican Onza Libertad Year Set Proof for collectors to consider building.
