Ron Guth:

The 1783 Chalmers Shilling with the Rings Reverse is one of the rarest of all U.S. Colonial coin types. Only five examples are known, the finest of which is the NGC VF25 that recently sold in the Donbald Partrick Collection (2015) for $129,250. That example was double struck, which caused some loss of details, but condition is often irrelevant when the rarity is so profound. These rarely appear at auction, so collectors have few opportunities to purchase one.
