The 1860 Half Dollar is a semi-scarce date with a low mintage. Mint State examples are available, but they are of generally average quality (MS62 to MS64). A small handful of Gem 1860 Half Dollars exist, but anything MS66 and better is very rare and valuable. One of the finest (and certainly the most colorful) 1860 Half Dollars is the PCGS MS67 -- formertly of the remarkable Eugene Gardner Collection. This date comes very well struck, with superb details on both sides. Luster ranges from frosty to brilliant; occasionally die striations or polishing lines can be seen in the fields (these should not be confused with hairlines caused by cleaning or wear).
