Only two 1842 Half Eagles are known to exist in Proof: one in the Smithsonian; and another with a long, impressive pedigree that includes famous collector names such as William Woodin, Col. E.H.R. Green, King Farouk, John Jay Pittman, and Harry Bass. The latter coin, the only collectible one of the two, last appeared on the market in 2009, when it sold for $172,500.
