Ron Guth:
The 1952 Washington-Carver Half Dollar has the largest mintage of any coin of the type by over a million coins. Similarly, the number of certified examples of this date is substantially larger than any other. The most frequently-seen grade is MS64, where thousands have been certified. In MS66, the population drops substabtially, yet remains common. Only in MS67 does this date become rare, and the finest example is a single PCGS MS68. The distinguishing characteristics of high-end examples are tremendous eye appeal, superb surfaces, and exceptional color.
