Ron Guth:
The Indian Cents from the first half of the 1870's are the easiest to find from that decade, but they are not as common as dates in the 1880's and 1890's. In terms of availability, the 1870 is roughly equal to the 1871-1875 dates. Mint State examples are available by the hundreds, mostly in the Red-Brown grades. According to the PCGS Population Report (as of July 2011), the finest MS Brown examples are two MS-65s. In Red-Brown, the finest examples are 4 MS-66s. In Red, the finest 1870 Indian Head Cents are 4 MS66s.
