1798 Large Cents are known with "First" and "Second" Hair Styles. These are misnomers because the hairstyles are actually quite similar and differ only by the addition of a conspicuous haircurl just left of and below the ear on the Second Hairstyle. The First Hair Style lacks this extra curl.
Sheldon 164 is a scarce variety, listed as a Rarity 4 by Walter Breen. Finding any example of this variety is a challenge, especially one on a nice planchet with pleasing Brown color. Mint State examples are exceedingly rare and only two have been certified above MS60 by PCGS. Red-Brown and Red examples are non-existent.
