Sheldon 268 is a relatively scarce variety of the 1805 Large Cent. This variety can only be found in circulated grades, as no Mint State example has ever turned up. In fact, the best examples are low-end AU's. This is somewhat surprising, since the other two varieties of 1805 are known by at least a dozen Mint State examples between them. However, both of those varieties are very common, so they were more likely to be seen and saved by the general populace.
The highest price achieved by this variety appears to be the $16,675 paid for Dan Holmes' raw AU50, which is generally perceived to be the finest known
