The 1865 Fancy 5, Repunched Date Variety

The FS-302 Repunched Date (PCGS #38262–38264) displays a strong impression of the entire date beneath the primary date. The orientation of the underdate is slightly canted, causing the "1" to appear higher than the "6" and "5." The underdate is clearly visible to the naked eye. On many examples, a die crack on the reverse extends from the 7 o'clock position to the stems of the wreath. This is one of three "Fancy 5" repunched dates listed in The Cherrypickers' Guide.
