The reverse features Hawaiian monarch King Kamehameha I. He can be seen stretching out his right arm towards the eight Hawaiian Islands. The reverse has the inscriptions, Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka "Aina I Ka Pono" (The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.") "Hawaii" and "1959."
The 2008-D Hawaii Quarter was released on November 03, 2008. This was the 50th coin struck in the 50 State Quarter Dollar series and also the last quarter of the program.
