Ron Guth:
The 1859 Dime was the last of the Stars Obverse Dimes. It is a fairly common date, though it is not nearly as common as the 1857, 1857-O, and the 1856. Fortunately, this date can be found in high grade more easily than any other date of the 1856-1859 time period. Over a dozen examples are known in MS67, making this an axcellent value for type collectors. The best example is a monster PCGS MS68 that was graded decades ago but which has never appeared at auction.
This date comes well struck and usually has frosty luster.
