Jaime Hernandez:

Since 2010 the U.S. Mint has struck two different versions of 5 oz. coins. And each year it also strikes 5 different coin designs in the America the Beautiful Coin program.

This year the Olympic theme design was the third design used in the 2011 America the Beautiful Coin program. It was also the eight different design issued in the series.

Obverse: The obverse has the same George Washington motif used on Washington Quarters from 1932 to date. Except that the design has been slightly modified over the years.

Reverse: The obverse of the Olympic 5 oz. coin features a Roosevelt Elk on the gravel next to the Hoh River. Behind the Roosevelt Elk there are many trees and large mountains. The reverse of the coin has the inscriptions, "Olympic, Washington 2011" and "E Pluribus Unum."
