Ron Guth:
The 181.7 Punctuated Date is one of the great "nick-named" varieties among the Capped Bust Half Dollar series. The "punctuation" is a small, raised die chip between the final 1 and the 7 of the date, closer to the 1 and just below the center. The punctuation only appears on Overton 103, which is considered a common (Rarity2) variety. Though it is easy to find in circulated grades, the 181.7 Punctuated Date Half Dollar is very rare in Mint State, and most of those are low-end. Only two or three examples can be considered choice.
