David Hall:
The 1918-D is one of the scarcer Walking Liberty half dollars in circulated grades. In mint state, it is also one of the most scarce issues, and it one of the rarest of all in Gem condition. Only the 1919-D and 1921-S are rarer in Gem condition. This is one of the true stoppers in the series and a true 20th century rarity in Gem condition. In Superb Gem MS66 or better condition, the 1918-D is virtually impossible to locate as only a few exist. Strike is usually not a problem with this issue...it's just a really rare coin in Gem condition. Luster is either satiny or somewhat frosty white, or the coin can exhibit toning in varying degrees.
