Ron Guth:

The Large Head 1855 Wass, Mollitor & Co. $20 is an extremely rare coin, known by only four examples. One of them resides in the National Numismatic Museum at the Smithsonian Institution. The location of two examples remains unclear today, though they are known to have existed in the Yale and duPont collections. A fourth example, from the Carter Collection (sold in 1984), reappeared in 2014 and was discovered by researcher Wayne Burt to be a different die variety. This new variety was designated as Kagin 8a.

On Kagin 8, the tip of the eagle's wing points to the F in FRANCISCO; on Kagin 8a, the wing tip points to the left side of the R in FRANCISCO.
