BG-204A is a unique variety among a series known as "Narrow Heads". The Breen-Gillio reference attributes these to the maker Joseph Bros., noting that it was first reported to researcher/collector Kenneth W. Lee in 1953-54. The lone survivor remained hidden until Kurt Krueger's July 1984 ANA Auction, when it was "re-discovered" by Jay Roe. In 2003, the coin was owned by California Gold specialist William O'Connor.
