Ron Guth:

The 1866 $20 With Motto, FS-801 is a Doubled Die Reverse. The best area in which to look for the doubling is in the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" where several of the letters (particularly the N, G, and R) are obviously doubled. The Fivaz-Stanton Guide (the FS "Bible") noted that this variety is well known among specialist. Unfortunately, it commands no premium over that of a regular 1866 With Motto $20, primarily because of the high-value of normal versions, thus there is no incentive to identify them. We ran into this when working on the PCGS CoinFacts Condition Census - many of the auction appearances were clearly FS-801's but they were not identified as such.

Thus far, we have identified five examples that are MS62 or better, a single example that grades MS64, and none finer.
