Although the Mint struck over 2 million 1843 Large Cents, a much smaller quantity actually exist. The PCGS CoinFacts survival estimate is at about 2,000 coins exist. From the coins that do exist, many more have been altered or over cleaned, making them ungradable. At PCGS, we have graded less than 400 coins in all graded combined, making them even scarcer. In Grades of MS65 or higher they are also very difficult to obtain. Very few coins exist in MS66 condition or higher.
