Mint employees created restrikes of the Proof-only 1845 Half Cents using two different reverses: Reverse of 1840 and 1856. The Reverse of 1840 versions are known as the Second Restrikes; the Reverse of 1856 versions are known as the First Restrikes. For 1845, the First Restrike is much more rare than the Second Restrike. Breen listed six different examples in his Half Cent Encyclopedia. Most of the known examples are spotted to some degree. The best example appears to be the NGC PR67BN from the Floyd Starr Collection.
